College and Careers
Model UN helps students on their paths to college and careers. It is important to note that university applications look for the leader in a student, and through MUN, our students have the privilege of having such an activity offered to them right here at Sagesse High School!
MUNers fill youngest generation of employees at the UN, Foreign Services around the world, and a wide range of the most prestigious careers around the world.
Sagesse High School is seeking to advance the understanding of the United Nations System and the global issues that the world is dealing with today.
To achieve this understanding, students experience quality educational extra-curricular activities. These activities emphasize collaboration and cooperative conflict resolution while preparing participants for active global citizenship.
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. The participants role-play as diplomats representing a nation. They research a country, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.
During a conference, participants must employ a variety of critical skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, and note taking.
Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves all these skills as well as emphasizing on debating and writing skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Model UNs are often run using basic parliamentary procedure. This allows all delegates to be active participants. Common activities in MUN involve giving speeches to the committee and writing resolutions concerning a given topic.
At Sagesse High School, MUN is offered as an extra-curricular activity. Students have been showing a lot of enthusiasm and are challenging themselves in order to attain the skills offered from such a program.
Furthermore, our SHSMUners have had the opportunity to participate in many international conferences over the past few years and had experienced, first hand, how to be a team player, how to use diplomacy to attain the target needed, and had grasped what diversity is all about.
