CIRCULAR SEC IB-A.P. & L.P. No. 1/AY 16-17

February 16, 2017

Dear Parents of Sec 1, Sec 2, 10A.P.,11A.P. and IBDP I,

Sagesse High School in collaboration with Sports Max is organizing a ski trip to Kfardebian from Wednesday, February 22, 2017 until Friday, February 24, 2017. 

Students will be staying at Hors Pist hotel(four star plus) and will be accompanied by Mr. Elie Kmeid, Ms. Celine Waked, Mr. Nicholas Matta, Mr. Walid Faddoul (Sports Max Ski School),   Dr. Georges Bachaalani (who will be called in case of medical emergencies) and SHS teachers or supervisors. However, it is worth mentioning that the parents assume full responsibility for their daughter / son and neither SHS nor Sports Max will be responsible for the unsafe or inappropriate conduct of the students throughout this trip. 

The cost of the ski trip is $400 per person and includes full accommodation (2 nights in large rooms fitted with 3 to 5 beds per room, 3 meals per day), two days skiing, ski equipment, ski pass, instruction (one instructor for every three to six students), activities, transportation and full insurance.

In addition to the ski suit, your child will need the following items: helmet, snow shoes, gloves, hat, sun glasses/ski goggles, sun protection cream for face and lips, long socks, extra change of clothes, pajamas, underclothes, toothbrush & toothpaste, shampoo, towels, etc. Students are not allowed to bring any electronic devices. Organizers and SHS assume no liability for the theft, loss or damage of personal belongings or items. You can contact Mr. Elie Kmeid (03-508261) or Ms. Celine Waked(03-186474) at any time during the trip. 

Please note that any student who misbehaves during the trip will be sent home.

Students who sign up for the ski trip will leave SHS in the afternoon on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 (exam day). Students will return to school around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017. Parents are kindly asked to provide transportation for their daughter/son from SHS on Friday.

In case of bad weather on the above mentioned dates, the ski trip will be postponed.

Parents who wish to register their daughter/son are kindly asked to fill in the Ski Trip Form and have their daughter/son submit it to the floor supervisor, Mrs. Serrieh Daniel by Monday, February 20, 2017 with the required amount of money.

N.B. No reimbursement will be made unless the school decides to cancel the trip.

On another note, SHS is also organizing skiing days at Kfardebian on February 23 and 24, 2017 for students who do not wish to go on the ski trip. 

The cost of one ski day is $130 per student and includes transportation, boots and ski equipment rental, ski pass, breakfast, lunch, full insurance and 4 hours of instruction with a ski instructor.

Students who sign up for the ski day(s) will leave SHS at 7:00 a.m. in the morning and will return to school around 4:30 p.m. Parents are kindly asked to provide transportation for their daughter/son from SHS on the specified days.

In case of bad weather on the above mentioned dates, the ski days will be postponed.

Dear Parents,

Kindly be informed that the Lebanese government is requesting passport photographs for the students in the IBDP II and 12 A.P. classes. The school photographer will be taking the pictures of the students at school, on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

The cost of 4 photographs is 5000 L.L. Parents are kindly asked to make sure to send the exact amount and have their son/daughter give it to the floor supervisors, no later than Friday, January 27, 2017.

CIRCULAR IB & A.P. No 39/AY 16-17

Dear Parents/Guardians of 10A.P. Students, 

This is to inform you that Sagesse High School is starting reinforcement sessions in math SL for 10A.P. students as of Saturday, January 28, 2017. 

The session will be offered once a week on Saturdays from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. and will accommodate a maximum of 10 students. 

The cost for the whole session is $150 per month which should be paid at the accounting’s office by Thursday, January 26, 2017.  It is worth mentioning that students will be registered on a first come first serve basis. 

Parents who wish to register their son/daughter are kindly asked to fill in the attached reply form and have their son / daughter return it to the floor supervisor by January 25, 2017.

Parents are kindly requested to provide transportation for their son/daughter on Saturdays.

It is worth mentioning that while SHS is offering this service to its students it is by no means a guarantee that enrolled students will pass or overcome their weaknesses  especially if they are not serious, refuse to cooperate and do not show commitment to their work and studying.

CIRCULAR IB & A.P. No 34 /AY 16-17

Dear Parents of Grade 10 A.P. Students,

Kindly take note of the promotion requirements which will be implemented this academic year.

Grade 10 American Program (A.P.) 

In order to be eligible for promotion to the next grade level*, a student must:
1.    Have no more than 10 excused absences throughout this academic year.
2.    Complete all the required internal assessment work.
3.    Fulfill the requirements of the Active Citizen Project.
4.    Have a clear disciplinary record.
5.    Have No failing grades. (i.e. 65% or above).
6.    Have no incomplete (I) grades.
7.    Have a passing average (65% or above).

In case of a failing average, students are allowed two make-up exams (in one 5-credit and one 4-credit courses or in two 4-credit courses). 

The make-up exams are administered in September.

Any student who fails to meet the minimum requirements in one or more courses, or whose conduct is not deemed worthy or who does not fulfill the requirements for his/her class will not be promoted to the next grade level.

*In order to be eligible for promotion to year 1 of the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP I) a student must:
    1.    Have a passing average of 80% or above.
    2.    a. Have a passing average of 70% or above in the subject to be eligible to choose that subject at standard level.    
          b. Have a passing average of 80% or above in the subject to be eligible to choose that subject at higher level.

Dear Parents of Grade 11 A.P. Students,

Kindly be informed that the SHS chaplaincy has organized a Christmas spiritual day for the grade 10 & 11 A.P. students on Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. Augustine- Seminary in Kafra, Ain Saadeh.

Program of the Day

8:35:   Departure from SHS
9:00:   Morning Prayer
9:30:   Main Lecture (Workshop)
10:30: Breakfast
11:00: Conclusion of the Workshop
12:00: Mass
12:30: Departure to have Lunch at Burger King and McDonald’s –Mansourieh
13:45: Return to SHS

Students will leave SHS by bus at 8:35 a.m. and will be back around 2:10 p.m.  They will be accompanied by SHS teachers and supervisors. Regular classes will be held during the first period. 

It is worth mentioning that students will be having lunch at Burger King and McDonalds –Mansourieh and are expected to pay for their own meals. 

Spiritual retreats are part of the Catechism curriculum and are considered as regular school days. Absences are not allowed unless there is a severe medical case, which must be justified with a medical report from a doctor.

All students must wear the full SHS official uniform on that day (grey trousers/grey skirt, blue shirt, blue pullover, blazer, tie and black shoes).

CIRCULAR IB & A.P. No 19/AY 16-17

Dear Parents/Guardians of 11A.P. Students, 

This is to inform you that Sagesse High School is starting reinforcement sessions in Preparatory SAT for 11A.P. students as of Friday, November 18, 2016. 

Three sessions will be offered once a week on Fridays and Saturdays. One session will be scheduled on Friday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Two other sessions will be scheduled on Saturdays from 8:00 until 9:30 a.m. and from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Each session will accommodate a maximum of 10 students. 

The cost for the whole session is $150 per month which should be paid at the accounting’s office by Thursday, November 17, 2016.  It is worth mentioning that students may choose the date and time of the session they wish to attend, yet, on a first come first serve basis. 

Parents are kindly requested to provide transportation for their son/daughter on those afternoons since SHS buses will leave as usual at 2:30 p.m.

Please fill in the attached reply form and have your son / daughter return it to the floor supervisor by November 16, 2016.

It is worth mentioning that while SHS is offering this service to its students it is by no means a guarantee that enrolled students will pass or overcome their weaknesses  especially if they are not serious, refuse to cooperate and do not show commitment to their work and studying.

Dear Parents of 11A.P. and Sec 2 SC & Sec 2 SE Students, 
 
As part of the Flag Day activities, kindly be informed that the 11 A.P., Sec 2SC & Sec 2SE students will be going on a trip to Falougha on Friday, November 11, 2016. Students will visit the site where the first Lebanese Flag was raised in Falougha and then will have lunch at the restaurant in Hotel Rami. 

Students must bring their own pocket money to pay for their lunch ($20/person) and souvenirs. They are asked to wear jeans, T-shirts and comfortable walking shoes and are advised to get their caps. 

It is worth mentioning that students will be accompanied by Mr. Dany Kfoury and other SHS staff members. Buses will leave SHS at 8:30 a.m. sharp and will bring back the students around              1:45 p.m.

Dear Parents of Grade 12 A.P. Students,

Kindly take note of the graduation requirements that will be implemented this academic year.

In order to be eligible to graduate, a student must:
1.    Have no more than 10 excused absences throughout this academic year.
2.    Complete all the required internal assessment work.
3.    Fulfill the requirements of the Active Citizen Project.
4.    Have a clear disciplinary record.
5.    Have NO failing grades. (i.e. 65% or above in all courses except languages where the passing average is 80%).
6.    Have no incomplete (I) grades.
7.    Have a total score of at least 2600 on SAT I & II.
8.    Have a passing average (65% or above).

In case of a failing average, students are allowed two make-up exams (in one 5-credit and one 4-credit courses or in two 4-credit courses). 

The make-up exams are administered before the commencement exercises.

Any student who fails to meet the minimum requirements in one or more courses, or whose conduct is not deemed worthy or who does not fulfill the requirements for his/her class will not be eligible to participate in the commencement exercises.

Dear Parents of Intermediate and Secondary Students,

We would like to inform you that as of Thursday, October 27, 2016, Sagesse High School will start implementing a new tardiness policy for students. 

The policy is as follows:

Students who arrive late in the morning will serve detention for 30 minutes, after school schedule on the same day, to compensate for their tardiness. 

It is worth mentioning that the school will inform the parents of students who come by taxi, whenever they arrive late in the morning, that they will be serving detention in the afternoon. It goes without saying that parents who drive their children to school are aware of their tardiness on a particular day.

Dear Parents of IBDP I & II Students,

Kindly be informed that as part of the CAS program, some IBDP I & II students will be participating in a hiking trip to the Barouk Cedars on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The trip is organized in collaboration with other IB schools in Lebanon.  It is worth mentioning that the students will be accompanied by Mrs. Rania Jibai (CAS Coordinator), Mrs. Morene Boutros        (CAS Advisor) and Mr. Omar Mechleb (Supervisor). The entrance fee is 5000 LP per person which will be paid by each student at the entrance. 

Students will leave by bus at 8:00 a.m. and will be back at SHS around 2:45 p.m. Parents are kindly asked to provide to and from SHS on that day. 

Students should bring their own snacks, sandwiches, water and hats and are advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
