Promotion Requirements

Secondary 1 Lebanese Program (LP)

In order to be eligible for promotion to the next grade level*, a student must meet the following:

1.     A cumulative average score of 10/20 or above,

2.     No incomplete (I) grades in any subject,

3.     No more than 10 unexcused absences throughout the academic year,

4.     The Active Citizen Project requirements,

5.     The Community Service (CS) requirements, 

6.     Obtain clearance from the Disciplinary Council.

* a) to be eligible for promotion to the Sec 2 Scientific, a student must have at least scored the following passing averages: Mathematics: 12/20; Biology: 12/20; Chemistry: 12/20; Physics: 12/20 

  b) To be eligible for promotion to the Sec 2 Sociology & Economics, a student must have at least scored the following passing averages: Economics: 12/20; Sociology: 12/20 

 

  • If a student has a failing cumulative average[1], then the deliberation committee[2] will decide whether or not the student is retained or sits for make-up exams in the failing subjects.

 

  • If a student has a passing cumulative average[3] but is failing one or more subjects, then the deliberation committee will decide whether or not the student has to sit for qualifying exams in those subjects. The qualifying exam mark will be used to replace the final exam mark.

 

  • If a student has incomplete grades, then the student must sit for a qualifying exam in that subject or complete a remedial assignment as recommended by the deliberation committee.

 

  • If a student fails to meet the non-academic requirements (ACP and CS), then he/she will be requested to complete ACP and CS related work as recommended by the deliberation committee.

 

  • If a student exceeds the maximum allowed number of unexcused absences, then he/she will have to complete remedial work as recommended by the deliberation committee.

 

  • If a student fails to meet the disciplinary requirement, then he/she will be promoted with disciplinary probation and may be asked to attend counselling sessions as recommended by the school counselor.

 

  • The school rector reserves the right to override the decision of the deliberation committee where appropriate.

 

N.B. The make-up and qualifying exams are administered in September of every academic year.

2.     No incomplete (I) grades in any subject,

5.     The Community Service (CS) requirements, 

6.     Obtain clearance from the Disciplinary Council.

 

Any student who fails to meet the minimum requirements in one or more courses, or whose conduct is not deemed worthy or who does not fulfill the requirements for his/her class will not be eligible to participate in the commencement exercises.


1 Failing cumulative average: a cumulative average less than 10/20         

2 Deliberation committee: A committee which includes all the teachers of the class, the head of division & the supervisor

3 Passing cumulative average: a cumulative average greater than or equal to 10/20

4 Failing cumulative average: a cumulative average less than 10/20      

5 Deliberation committee: A committee which includes all the teachers of the class, the head of division & the supervisor
