Plagiarism Penalty Policy (PPP)
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is passing off someone else’s ideas or words as one’s own without giving credit or without giving credit properly. Plagiarism may take the form of directly copying another’s work (in whole or in part), improperly citing sources, presenting another’s view or concept without acknowledging the originator, or receiving help with an assignment. (www.dl.ecc.edu/Plagiarism.html)
Sagesse High School students are held accountable for any act of plagiarism. Plagiarism can be both intentional and unintentional. No matter the case, students are held equally accountable. Procedures apply to all those whose work has been assessed to be plagiarized and evidence has been submitted. Penalties may range from marking a student’s paper as plagiarized and, thus, award him/her a zero to suspending the student or dropping them from a given academic program.
Any submitted work that receives a rating of 40% and above, on “Plagscan” software analysis, is directly processed for authentication assessment. Concerned teachers and HODs determine whether the work is original or not.
Certain papers and research projects may be subject to penalties even if the percentage is below 40%. In such cases, the decision is left in the hands of the concerned HOD.
The following table summarizes the list of PPPs agreed upon by the Academic Board Members.
