Dear Parents,
We would like to remind you that starting this Monday, February 17, the school day at SHS will be ending at 3:15 pm for Elementary, Intermediate, and Secondary divisions, and 2:55 pm for the Preschool Division.
Aware of the inconvenience that could result from this extension, but following thorough discussions and taking into consideration the suggestions of the majority, we believe that this is the best way to compensate for the lost teaching time and improve student achievement.

During the second and third week of January 2020, the Math Department held its XI Internal Math Fair with the participation of many students from the Upper elementary, Intermediate, and Secondary divisions. The Fair was a complete success and students presented various innovative and creative projects.

The Spanish Department announced to the students the 2019-2020 AY’s Theme of the Year: #Yo Soy Líbano and invited them, through class activities, to discover some Spanish words with Arabic origin.
Going back in time to the Middle Ages, between 711 and 1492 AD, the Arabs colonized the territory of the Iberian Peninsula and named it “AL Andalus.” As a result, about 4,000 Spanish words are influenced by Arabic, which constitutes around 30% of the Spanish Language.

The Christmas season is a very religious time in Latin America and Spain. To celebrate this festivity, the Spanish Department, coordinated by Mrs. Maya Metni, organized a Christmas activity on December 18, 2019.
All groups participated in a preselection competition, organized by Spanish teachers Mr. Nassib Karam and Mr. Ramzi Richani, and two winning groups qualified to compete in the final competition.
With the support of their classmates, the contestants completed a series of tasks and answered questions to gain points and win the big prize.

Sagesse High School’s MUN students truly showed that obstacles are nothing when there is a job to be done. Despite the harsh weather conditions, 15 MUNers participated in the two-day HKMUN conference that took place on the 4th and 5th of January, 2020 at Hassan Kassir High School - Bir Hassan. This enthusiasm was punctuated by the Best Delegate awards, the Diplomacy awards, and the Honorable Mention that our students won.

On Friday, December 20, the Parties Committee organized a Christmas Party for students of the Intermediate Division. The party included a DJ, a photo booth, and many fun activities and competitions. This party mainly aimed for students to celebrate Christmas together with their friends before the vacation starts.
The Christian Life Department at Sagesse High School held its annual spiritual retreat for all faculty and staff on December 21, 2019. In his address to the assembled group, Father Joseph Soueid, SHS General Chaplain, related the old testament with the new testament while highlighting prominent stages in the journey from Genesis till the end of times. The spiritual talk was followed by mass presided by Rector Fr. Joe Daccache. Then the teachers choir enchanted everyone with their beautiful and festive Christmas songs.
Our talented choir have performed joyful reditions of Christmas carols at The Frozen City on December 27, 2019.

All donations were wrapped in festive boxes designed by our students who also included their pictures, greeting cards, and short videos.

It’s a magical season at the Lower Elementary Division. Competitions like decorating the Christmas tree, building a snowman, and walking through a snow ball are activities that students enjoyed during the physical education classes. Joy, laughter, and shine, it’s Christmas time!
Friday, December 20 was a day full of activities and games. The Parents Association wrapped gifts and distributed them to all preschoolers!
MY SECRET ANGEL
"My Secret Angel" is an activity organized by the Christian Life Department for students of the Upper Elementary Division. The purpose of this activity is to encourage students to pray for one another so to understand that prayer and kind words are more valuable and meaningful than any material gift.
Holidays are a time of inspiration, celebration, and self-reflection, especially during art classes!

During science class, Grade 7 students measured the starting friction, forward-stopping friction, and sideways-stopping friction of different types of shoes at the lab.
They also watched the 3D documentary "The Universe."
Grade 7 students observe the relationship between time, distance, and speed in an open inquiry activity for their science class.

Santa hat, reindeer antlers, elf ears... Our students wore their festive hats and colorful outfits to get in the spirit of Christmas!
Grade 1 A, B, and C students visited the Lower Elementary Science Lab for the first time. They shared their amazing projects with their class, as well as enjoyed a group work activity in which they separated plants into groups.
Over the past several weeks, the Sports Committee of the Students' Organization was holding its annual Intermediate Division Football Tournament during breaks. On December 6, 2019, the final game was held between Grade 8A and Grade 9B.
During this week's assemblies organized by the Upper Elementary Division, awards were distributed to high achievers in English, Computer, and Arts.

The Upper Elementary Division organized a Steal the Beacon Tournament during breaks for its students.
Steal the Beacon is a traditional outdoor game. Every class constitutes a team and players are assigned a number, which is shared by a member of the opposing team. The teams line up on opposite edges of the playground. The referee calls out the number, and the team members who have that number must run to the center, grab the bacon, and return to their teammates without being tagged by the other player with the same number.
Grade 4 E were crowned winners!
Grammar is so much fun in Grade 1! After completing an interactive activity about the grammar lesson Word Order, the students worked in groups to put words in the correct order to form complete sentences.
Our students have achieved amazing results at the H2O Qatar Autumn Cup Swimming Competition.
Shayna Katra won three Gold and one Silver medal;
Ryan Katra won two silver medals;
Skye Aoun won one silver and one bronze medal;
Maria Saba won four silver and one bronze medal;
Jude Aoun finished fifth place.

The Upper Elementary students appreciated a fun-filled day with their friends celebrating Saint Barbara's day. Class parties were enjoyed by everybody and break-time was lots of fun with students listening to their friend Anthony Badih El Haj play the Derbakeh.
Good personal hygiene can boost your child's self-esteem, as well as keep them healthy.
To make sure our young preschoolers have good personal hygiene, we taught them to wash their hands before eating or preparing food, after going to the toilet, and after playing or touching animals or dirty things.
During music class for KG 2, students practiced playing the Do major scale on the xylophones and the steady beat on other small percussion instruments.
The annual Teachers Vs Seniors Futsal game was played today at the school's gymnasium.
The Prom Committee organized the traditional Futsal game between SHS teachers and senior students. The teams put up a great performance both defensively and offensively, and even the goalkeepers left their mark on the game!
The students were crowned winners!
After the game, the Prom Committee made sure to leave a clean court!

Our young scout members celebrated the launching of the new scout year in a beautiful ceremony attended by members of Scouts and Guides, the Rector, the Chaplain, parents, and friends.
Our SHSMUNers participated in the 18th edition of LEMUN Conference in Leiden, The Netherlands. This year’s theme “Another Brick in the Wall” is a song written by Pink Floyd as a protest against rigid school systems. The theme relates to current world events such as distrusts in authority and governance.
The three-day conference, which started on November 22nd and ended on the 24th, was very fruitful. Our SHSMUNers did a great job during the debates receiving a couple of best delegates at the end of the day!

The Sagesse High School Students’ Organization is a volunteer organization in the school that aims at improving the school’s environment making it a joyful educational place and developing interaction between students since it requires teamwork, responsibility, collaboration, and communication. It works on producing the leaders of our future to fix and rule our society as responsible and mature as possible. It welcomes any and all individuals willing to join from the Secondary L.P. and A.P. Divisions and IBDP.

During English period, our second graders worked in groups to identify the different types of sentences.
As part of their community service (خدمة المجتمع), our Secondary 1 L.P. and Grade 10 A.P. students are working this academic year on spreading the culture of recycling around the school.
Our young preschoolers enjoyed a fun and busy day as they celebrated Lebanon's 76th Independence Day.
Their day included cooking activities: Nursery students created the Lebanese flag from labneh, tomatoes, and cucumber, KG1 students rolled out the dough and made delicious man'oushi, while KG2 students decorated crunchy cookies and enjoyed a sajj breakfast.
The young students also participated in an army training camp during which they completed a fun yet challenging obstacle course.
The Art Department allowed students from all divisions to celebrate pride in Lebanon with these patriotic artworks.
Independence Day 2019
The Intermediate and Secondary Divisions celebrated Independence Day at Msgr. Paul Matar Square.
“Meeting here on Flag Day has become a tradition at Sagesse High School. It is a great honor for me as rector, to address you for the first time on this occasion of the independence of Lebanon, as there’s much to celebrate and many blessings to be grateful for, despite the fact that our country is in turmoil. In fact, we are celebrating this year the centennial declaration of what is called The State of Greater Lebanon, as well as the declaration of Patriarch Elias Peter el Hoayek, the Father of Greater Lebanon, as Venerable.

At Sagesse High School we educate and motivate our students to be responsible citizens with strong ethical values. This morning, SHS Rector, Father Joe Daccache, celebrated mass at the new Chapel in Block A. Parents, teachers, and students attended the early mass to pray for Lebanon as they turned all their worries and problems over to God.
CAS - World Food Day Bike Ride Against Hunger and Food Waste
In the occasion of World Food Day, IBDP II students participated in a bike ride against hunger and food waste on October 16, 2019, as part of their CAS programs. They biked with 100 participants from other schools for two hours around Beirut.

“How would you define friendship? Is your definition real or imagined?” During English classes, Grade 2 students were able to answer those two inquiry questions through a friendship tree activity where all the values of friendship were displayed through leaves.

It is hard for parents to see their young kids let go of their hands and walk into school alone, but this is part of character building. A big clap goes to our preschoolers who came in all alone on their first week.

The School Administration is well aware of the inconvenience you are facing during pick-up and drop-off due to traffic congestion inside school premises. In order to solve this issue, a committee, composed of parents, faculty, staff, and professionals, will be formed to manage traffic flows and review pick-up and drop-off procedures.

Sagesse High School offers you the chance to rent its indoor basketball court and mini football pitch.
Our basketball court is a beautiful full-sized hardwood court with wall-mounted glass backboards and room around the perimeter for spectator seating. It also features retractable volleyball net that can convert the court into a full-sized volleyball court in a matter of minutes.
Our mini football pitch’s artificial grass turf is perfect for optimum playing experience and players safety and ideal for playing 5 a side football.

To ensure the proper care for your child /children while at school please abide by the following:
- Parents of newly enrolled students are requested to complete the student medical form and must submit it to the nurse in the division. The medical form is posted on the SHS website and may be printed for completion.
- All parents who did not submit the completed student medical form for their child/children during the 2016-2017 academic year are required to do so this year. The medical form is posted on the SHS website and may be printed for completion.
- All parents who submitted the completed student medical form for their child/children during the 2016-2017 academic year are kindly asked to submit any health updates related to their child/children to the concerned nurses in the divisions.

Parents who find it necessary to request private tutoring sessions for their son / daughter with Sagesse High School faculty or staff members are kindly requested to fill in a "Private Tutoring Request Form" at the head of division’s assistant’s office. Based on this form, the suitable teacher for the requested tutoring will be assigned by the head of department and/or the head of division. The head of division will then inform the parents and will give them the teacher's phone number to continue with the procedure.
In alignment with Sagesse High School’s mission statement, we aim to promote students as life-long learners and responsible citizens with strong ethical values. Parents also play an active role in promoting this mission when they practice positive discipline with their own children, and when they endeavor to become positive role models. Such role modeling becomes evident within the school community where matters are dealt with responsibly and respectfully, on or off school premises. As part of Sagesse High school’s ongoing improvement plan, the Quality Improvement Department (QI) looks forward to receive your suggestions and/ or complaints.
To facilitate the process, the school has placed drop boxes and SC (Suggestions and/ or complaints) referenced sheets at the entrance of each block A, B and C.
Sagesse High School was recommended for full re-accreditation for Designing Our Future Protocol by the MSA Visiting Team on April 22, 2016 for the coming 7 years. At this point, SHS would like to extend its warmest gratitude and congratulations to all its stakeholders.
